Home Cost Journal publishes researched cost data for common home improvement projects — window replacement, bathroom remodels, and roofing. We exist because contractor pricing is opaque: most homeowners walk into a five-figure project with no idea what the fair range is.

How we research prices

Our figures come from published contractor price lists, industry cost databases, manufacturer suggested pricing, permit-fee schedules, and periodic checks against real quotes shared by readers. Every guide lists the year its data was last verified, and we update the core cost tables when the market moves, not on a marketing calendar.

How we make money

Some pages may contain referral links or forms that connect you with contractors or service providers, for which we may receive compensation.
